Climate change ...

The weather has been great this summer. It has reminded me of summers when I was a kid. Getting too hot, even in the shade, and having to run down the hot sand for a swim to cool off. Great stuff and if next summer is like this, bring on climate change.

Have you left the starting blocks?

Get ready. Set. Go!!

Welcome to the end of January. Have a look back and see what you have achieved. The general feeling is most people haven't even left the starting blocks yet and we are almost into February.

It's time to take action.

No more saying, "I'll do that tomorrow." Tomorrow will turn into next week, then next month and then never.

Taking action will cure fear and build your confidence. Think in terms of now. Don't wait until conditions are perfect, they never will be. Start now, expect future obstacles and deal with them as they arise.

Remember a great idea is only an idea until you do something about it.

Book I just read ...

I like a bit of fantasy and David and Leigh Eddings are two of my favourite epic fantasy authors. They are able to create entire new worlds and people who, although sometimes gods, are very human.

The Quest is Book Two of The Dreamers. I enjoyed reading it and getting involved with some of the characters. I especially like the thought of having my own pet lightning bolt to travel on.

Sir Edmund Hillary's State Funeral

I took some time out yesterday to watch Sir Edmund Hillary's State Funeral and wrote the following in my journal;

Big, solemn occasion.
A fitting statement of NZ's love and admiration of a great, great man.

I am amazed by how many people's lives he touched and how many were/are actively helped by him and the Himalayan Fund since he first went to Nepal.

The stories told by his son Peter were fantastic and gave an insight into his family life.

He will be remembered.

How important are you?

"Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline. When you have both firmly under your belt, that's real power." Clint Eastwood

You are important!

When you think you are important, and are always doing your best, this will lead to self-respect. Self-respect is a powerful tool and it seems all successful people have it.

Here is a simple test: How do you react when someone compliments you?
If you can graciously accept the compliment, that is a sign of self-respect.

To see how important you are to everyone look at the news. A child is swept out to sea and everyoneone on hand does what they can to save that child. A person is late back from the bush and hundreds of volunteers go looking for them. Thousands of man hours are spent looking for someone who is reported missing.

Observation.

Watching rain fall through a tree,

Hitting leaves as it goes,

Is like watching a musical instrument being played.

Slap, slap, is the only sound I can hear as they hit.

But if I had better ears would the music being played be beautiful?

I suspect it would.

What do you think?

Books I've been reading ...

The Science of Success by Wallace D. Wattles is three books in one. It includes, The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Well and The Science of Being Great.

The Science of Getting Rich is the book Rhonda Byrne says gave her the inspiration for 'The Secret'.

The three books are based around New Thought Principles
that Wattles was a proponent of. I felt it was an interesting read that has sparked an interest for learning more about who came up with these ideas before Wattles and his peers.
It is thought the earliest proponent of New Thought was Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (1802 - 1866).

Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau are commonly quoted in all the books. However, Wattles always goes back to the Bible for quotes to back up his theories. So maybe the first ever Self Help or New Thought book was the Bible.
In the books he tends to repeat himself to explain a principle and ingrain it in you. Not the easiest read but I recommend it if you are interested in The Secret and want to learn more about what you can do and be.
